Transgender Law and Policy Institute
A non-profit organization dedicated to engaging in effective advocacy for transgender people in our society. The TLPI brings experts and advocates together to work on law and policy initiatives designed to advance transgender equality.

National Center for Transgender Equality
Dedicated to advancing the equality of transgender people through advocacy, education and empowerment. Especially helpful sections include Changing Name and Gender on Federal Documents (passport and social security card) and Social Security Gender No-Match Letters and Transgender Employees.

Transgender Law Center
California-based, but lots of relevant general information on legal aspects of transition.

National Center for Lesbian Rights > Transgender Law
Despite the organization's name, this group does a lot to serve transgender and transsexual people who are not also lesbians. Lots of great info in their publications and downloads.

Sylvia Rivera Law Project
SRLP works to guarantee that all people are free to self-determine gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race, and without facing harassment, discrimination or violence.

The Transsexual Roadmap is a site primarily directed toward MTFs, but much of the information pertains to female to male transition as well. This link contains information about legal name changes (not MTF specific).
